La Lotería is one of the most traditional board games in Mexico. La Lotería depicts some of different characters and elements of the mexican culture idiosincracy, or other ones that just becomes iconic, just the like the flag, the skull, the valiant, the roster, the horse, the devil, the crown, the tree, the spider, the mermaid, the musician an others.

From invitacion by Formato Libre Diseñería (a graphic design studio based in Xalapa, Veracruz) to the project "La Lotería, un homenaje ilustrado (The Lottery, an illustrated tribute)"  for collaborating and design with a personal interpretation of the cards of La Lotería. So I pick to illustrate "El Sol (The Sun)"
Because "The Sun" is one of the main elements of Pre-columbian cultures and around the world, I just take the Sun Stone, Stone of Five eras or the Aztec calendar Stone, a very famous basalt monolite as main reference. With a most modern and playful interpretation, taking the numerology on the Aztec calendar to make the number of elements around, added with the crown on the top as reference of the usual reference as the king star.
Also a custom type making the word "EL SOL" on the bottom completes the design of this collaboration that may be printed in three inks on slikscreen and digital for the exhibition in an open space gallery in Xalapa, Veracruz.
